This football season the boys was very successful.They finished the season with a record of 7-2. Dean Martin, Cory Fuchser, John Black, Jason Strong, Brian Oetken, Russ Bokemper, Bary Habrock, Chad Strong, and Scott Anderson were members on the All-Conference Team. Honorable Mention went to Jeff Bousquet, Brian Emmons, and Chad Jepsen. Cory Fuchser received all sate honors and John Black and Dean Martin received Honorable Mention.

The E-H volleyball team started off slowly. They flip flopped wins and losses. They ended the season with a record of 9-8. Four players received recognition. Sara Paulsen was selected for the first team Lewis and Clark All-Conference

The boys this season had a winning season, winning Post Holiday Tournament and earned a piece of the Lewis and Clark regular season championship.They finished the season with a record of 12-6. Cory Fuchser received First Team All Conference and Second Team All State. Brian Oetken received Second Team All Conference and Honorable Mention All-State. John Black and Scott Anderson received Honorable Mention and All Conference.

The track team consisted of 18 hard working individuals. They placed 4th at the Conference meet. The team qualified seven individuals for the State Meet in Omaha. Brian Oetken did triple jump. Scott Anderson did 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles. Dean Martin ran the 400 and 800 meter runs. The 4X800 was ran by Brian Oetken, John Black, Chad Strong, and Dean Martin. The 4X400 was ran by Jason Strong, Cory Fuchser, Chad Strong, and Dean Martin.

Choir
There were thirty members of high school choir. They worked hard on fundamentals of vocal techniques and performed very well at the Christmas and Spring concerts. They Received a Superior at District contest.
Band
The marching band placed third at the Wayne State College Band Day. They placed third at the Norfolk Lavitsef Parade and they placed second at the Emerson-Hubbard Homecoming Parade. The concert band performed for many local concerts as well as District music contest at Osmond.
FFA
The FFA had participated in many different activities throughout the year. They had participated in the Summer FFA Conferences that were held in our Nations Capital in Washington, D.C. The chapter also started a summer wildlife program. They did this to improve pheasant populations around Dixon, Thurston, and Dakota counties. Brian Mattison received the State FFA Degree. Bryan Belt placed first in the dairy selection contest at State.
FBLA
The president was Kari Jensen, Vice-President was Sara Paulsen, Secretary was Lynn Roeber, Treasurer was John Black, Historian was Stacy Mackling, News Reporter was Joetta Nelson, and parliamentarian was Shiela Phillips and Rusty Watkins. Some of the things they did was they chose a Silent Business Partner and bought for them for the christmas party. During Vocational Education Week, they sent valentine cards to the residents at the Hertiage of Emerson. They went to the FBLA state Leadership Conference in Omaha from April 6-8. The outstanding FBLA members were Rusty Watkins.
Annual
Jeff McTaggert, Lynne Roeber, Rusty Watkins, John Black, Jason Strong, Jin Conwaym Brian Oetken, Jeni Dinges, Marleen Hingst, Shiela Phillips, Angie Mattison, Debbie VonAswege and Sidonna Mastsers were all part of the annual team. They attended the Walsworth Convention in Norfolk. They also sold ads.
Homecoming
People spent the day working on floats and banners. They also spent most of the time just getting pumped for the football game later that night, but we can't forget about senior homecoming royalty. The 1989 Homecoming Royalty Bev Burcham, Kari Jensen, sara Paulsen, Cory Fuchser, jason Strong, John Black, Tiffany Belt, Jamie Modlin, Amy McTaggert, Leah Fuchser, Heather Collins, Russ Bokemper, Kyle Ahlers, Bryan Belt, Ryan Albrecht , and Ben Schwarten. King and Queen was Cory Fuchser and Sara Paulsen.
Sweetheart Dance
February 10, 1989 the sweetheart dance was held. The candidates for Queen were Angie Mattison, Marleen Hingst, Lynne Roeber, Jill Howard, Kari Jensen, Berverly Burcham, Sara Paulsen, and Jeni Dinges. The candidates for King were Mark Mellick and Brian Mattison. Second Runner-Up was Angie Mattison. First Runner-Up was Mark Mellick and Kary Jensen and the new king and queen were Brian Mattison and Sara Paulsen.
Prom
This years prom theme was "Oriental Magic". The gym was decorated in colors of red, black and gold. After they ate dinner Nadine Roeber introduced the sophomore waiters and waitresses and they were Stephanie Hassler, Brenda Langmack, Cathi Oetken, Gidget Olson, Leah Fuchser, Orelouse Bousquet, Chad Jepsen, Chad Strong, Kyle Ahlers, and Kyle Utermark. After that they took their date picture with Puckett Studio.
Graduation
The class of 1989 graduated on Sunday May 21, 1989. The ceremony was scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. and it was right on schedule. The honored speakers were Marleen Hingst, Kari Jensen, Sidonna Masters and Jeff McTaggert. The ceremony ended with whoops from some and tears from many!
